How to avoid fraud at Expedia hotels

Expedia is the latest to become a target of the anti-fraud police after a series of reports revealed it was charging a host of fees for online booking.

A report by TechCrunch found that the hotel service charged $1,400 for a room for a stay of a month and another $1 a week for a standard room.

The company did not provide any figures for a refund for these charges.

The same report found that Expedia charges $2,500 for an individual stay at a standard hotel room, $3,000 for a couple, and $4,000 per night for an apartment.

The Expedia spokesperson confirmed that the charges were the “highest rate” in its data, but added that “there is nothing wrong with the pricing”.

TechCrunch said that these charges amounted to an additional fee for a user to cover the cost of the standard room, and an additional $200 for an extra room to cover a charge for a second room.

“If Expedia were to add more charges to the standard and premium rates it would have to increase the amount of money it charges for a premium room and would not be able to charge more than the standard rate,” a user of the online booking service, known as TripAdvisor, wrote in a comment on a post about the matter.

The user added that if Expedia did not add additional charges, users would have been able to cancel their booking, and the company would not charge extra for this.

The company has since said it has “suspended” the charges, and has stopped charging a fee for bookings for the standard hotel and an apartment, while it continues to refund the user.

“We’re very sorry to hear about the experience that some users may have had at our Expedia booking system, but we do understand how frustrating these kinds of charges can be,” the company said in a statement.

TechCrunch contacted Expedia for comment and will update this post if we hear back.
